Believe it or not, these get even more contrived as some manufacturers refer to inconsistent size labels such as ‘Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large’…
At present there is no benchmark as to what actual size these relate to; some brands use a ladies’ size 12 as Medium meaning that a 16 is extra large – given that a size 16 is the average across most of the Western world this seems a little ridiculous – garments made in China, labelled ‘Extra Large’ will often be no bigger than a size 12 because, in China, this is extra large!
As there are so many variations it is impossible to provide guidance on all manufacturer’s sizing so, we try to make this simple and provide a chest measurement in addition to the manufacturer’s label size.
